the longest canonical interview ever Wednesday, February 02, 2005 mood:
yesterday, schmuck and i had our canonical interview. what can i say? it was so...surreal. schmuck and i had planned to leave the house early so we could still have breakfast at mcdo before going to st. james for our 9am appointment. 9-12nn, they said. but my dear husband to be was late in picking me up, and because i wanted to be in st. james early (pa-impress sa priest!), we decided to forego breakfast at mcdo and headed straight to the church. i was sooo disappointed pa cause i was so set on eating my favorite big breakfast! but really, i wouldn't call it a big breakfast anymore. maybe they should start calling it the small breakfast now. the sausage has shrunk and the eggs are so small. ok, i'm rambling... in the car, on the way to church, schmuck and i were already comparing notes to see if we would give the same answers to some questions we thought would be asked. how many kids do we want? what are the 7 sacraments? how do we plan to raise our kids? how are we sure that we're ready for marriage? have we engaged in premarital sex? hahahaha! we laughed ourselves silly during the entire drive. we got to st. james well before 9am, and when we got to the office, we were asked to sign some forms. we were also given a number (i guess we were first to arrive since we had number 1), and asked to wait. while we were waiting, i noticed there was this manong using the typewriter in the next table. after a while, the manong stood up, went to this small room, and motioned for us to come inside. helloooo!!! manong was the priest na pala! anyhoo, we all went to the small room and it was so cold! the aircon was full blast, and coupled with my fear and trepidation, it was all i could do not to tremble and have my teeth chatter in front of manong priest! then begins our canonical interview. this is verbatim. Manong Priest: (goes through our prenuptial interrogation form, baptismal and confirmation certificates) hmmmm, so ilang taon ka na? (looks at schmuck) Schmuck: 29 po, father. magthi-30 this year. Manong Priest: ahhh. hmmmm...(again, goes through our papers)...so 29 ka na. hmmmm...san nga ang parokya mo? (looks at schmuck again) Schmuck: sa resurrection po, sa bf, father. Manong Priest: ahhh. hmmm...(again, goes through our papers)...so bakit mo naman gusto pakasal? Schmuck: (reaches out to hold my hand) well, mahal ko po sya, father. at saka, gusto na rin po namin magkaroon ng pamilya. Tin: (stares at schmuck disbelievingly)...and thinks -- ang baduy ni schmuck!!! Manong Priest: ahhh. hmmm...(again, goes through our papers)...so ikaw, ilang taon ka naman? (looks at me) Tin: 30 po, father. Schmuck: mas matanda po sya sa kin, father. (laughs) Manong Priest: (laughs with schmuck) ganon? Tin: 3 months lang naman, father! (defensive!) Manong Priest: san ang parokya mo? Tin: sa our lady of unity po, father. sa paranaque. Manong Priest: aahhh. so sigurado na ba talaga kayo? wala nang atrasan to? Schmuck & Tin: (snickers) sigurado na po, father. tuloy na tuloy na po. Manong Priest: sigurado na ha? eh di, o sige, congratulations! (then proceeds to sign our forms) Tin: er...ah...thank you po, father. the end. it lasted all of 5 minutes. what the fuck?!?! that was it?!?! all the fear and trepidation and anxiety for THAT?!?! all our practice for THAT?!?! damn, i feel shortchanged!!! i was all set pa naman to tell him our love story. hehe! so that's really it? no "canonical interview part two" or a sequel or something? how anticlimactic. but at least, we still got to have our breakfast in mcdo. hee! |
